NRAI Trials: Gurpreet Singh wins Men’s 25m Rapid Fire Pistol Trial 1
2016 Olympian Gurpreet Singh announced himself back into contention after winning Trial 1 in the Men’s 25m Rapid Fire Pistol event.
Gurpreet, who had narrowly missed out on qualifying for the finals of this event back in Rio 2016, won here with 21 points in a low-scoring contest.
Gurpreet finished just a point ahead of Neeraj Kumar. Both Gurpreet and Neeraj were tied at 19 points going into the final series, but a 2 from the former and just a 1 from the latter got the win for the 33-year old Gurpreet.
Shivam Shukla finished 3rd with 17 points. Anish Bhanwala, who has been India’s leading shooter in this event since 2018, finished 9th in qualifying with a score of 569 and could not make it to the finals.
Gurpreet had also topped qualifications with 580. 2nd was Neeraj with 577. The 6th-placed shooter scored 570-19x. Today’s low scores were a stark contrast to the Men’s 10 Air Pistol trials contested yesterday and on Friday.
