Tajikistan Nurali Emomali refused to shake hands with Israeli judo opponent Baruch Shmailov; left competition later because of dislocated shoulder

Karma isn't instant, but it happens anyway. Nurali Emomali gets hostile and does not shake with Baruch Shmailov; it led to Hifumi Abe defeating Emomali (Ippon, 2:41.) with grave injury.

Freak injury is a commonality in combat sports where the physical element is prominent. So is the tendency of sporting an apex egotism. Not shaking someone’s hands, egotistic gestures, flipping off, and verbal jabs are all part of the unsportsmanlike sport. It turns out both have found their way into the Paris 2024 Olympics with Baruch Shmailov and Nurali Emomali.

Israeli Judoka Baruch Shmailov and Gefen Primo both won their first bouts at Paris 2024. However, for Shmailov, it was a double-decker, unsportsmanlike flavor. He opened the men’s under-66kg weight class by defeating Moroccan Abderrahmane Boushita. Shmailov pointed to the Israeli flag on his uniform when Boushita refused to shake his hand after the match. With the Israeli-Palestine global conflict still in play, especially in MMA, it is not unnatural. Consequently, then came Nurali Emomali.

The Tajikistan Judoka and Shmailov squared off in Elimination R16. He also refused to shake on it and touted a battle cry of “Allahu Akbar.” Later on, though, he injured his left arm in a vain feint and stepped to break his fall. Emomali couldn’t compete in his re-punch scrap in the noon session and missed the chance to fight for the bronze medal.

Olympiad levels of karmic backlash? Shmailov also had reason to retaliate in the global stage of conflict but didn’t. Oren Smadga coaches Shmailov and the rest of the men’s team. Smadga is an Olympic medalist who decided to take part in this year’s games just weeks after the death of his son, an IDF soldier who was killed last month in a battle with Hamas in Gaza. The matter has gone quite viral.

With massive physicality, even grapple and ground-based combatants can have injuries. People can suffer dire limb breaks and get hurt. But this wasn’t that; one might view it as pure karma. His misbehavior with Baruch Shmailov on a global stage was no light matter. Consequently, here’s what people think:

An unsportsmanlike spirit is a strict no-no in any sports base. Often, dissing out on grounds of discrimination and religious or socio-political differences can occur. And when it does, it’s not a pleasant thing to the spirit of the sport. Paris 2024 Olympics has found its own such element in Nurali Emomali.

This behavior, representing his land on a massive scale, did not curry him any favor. Some have even called for disqualification in such instances during the Olympics. The multi-sport culture is based on nations/delegations respecting each other; hence, the matter is not to anyone’s liking.
