NXT Star pays tribute to Rey Mysterio

NXT Cruiserweight Champion Santos Escobar paid a tribute to Rey Mysterio, at NXT’s Halloween Havoc. Escobar defeated Jake Atlas at Halloween special NXT episode. But his attire is what has got the WWE Universe buzzing. Escobar wore the same attire that the 619 Lucha had worn in 1997. Mysterio had worn the attire at the WCW Halloween Havoc PPV, in his match against Eddie Guerrero.

Escobar was accompanied by Legado Del Fantasma, who was wearing similar article. In addition to paying tribute to Mysterio, the duo also had face paint. It was “The Day of the Dead” paint that paid homage to their Mexican heritage. Mysterio acknowledged the tribute and also congratulated Escobar for the win.

Mysterio at Halloween Havoc

One of the most iconic rivalries of Mysterio’s wrestling career has been with Eddie Guerrero. And one of the most iconic match of this rivalry was at Halloween Havoc 1997. No doubt the duo had multiple iconic matches, but nothing comes close to the WCW PPV match. Mysterio even made a tweet to acknowledge that iconic match.

WWE Universe was quick to notice the similarities of that match to the Halloween Havoc at NXT. On the both the occasions, wrestlers of Mexican heritage had won important matches.

Currently, Mysterio along with his son Dominik is involved in a feud with Seth Rollins. While Santos Escobar is the Cruiserweight Champion at NXT.
