Mike Brown will forever be etched in the New York Knicks’ history. It was a memorable year for the Knicks as they reached the pinnacle of the NBA world. They lifted their first NBA championship since 1973 in June.
It was a historic title run, as they pulled off monumental comebacks and went on a 13-game win streak during the postseason. After going 2-1 down to the Atlanta Hawks in the first round, the Knicks clean swept the Philadelphia 76ers and Cleveland Cavaliers in the next two rounds before beating the San Antonio Spurs in five games in the Final.
The celebrations have been nonstop since. With less than three weeks to go for the new season, the Knicks prepare to defend their title for the first time in a long time.
Jalen Brunson became one of the biggest figures in New York, while Karl-Anthony Towns garnered praise for his incredible performances. Even OG Anunoby became a hero after his heroics in Game 4 of the Finals. The players received plaudits from the Knicks fanbase, but one person was overlooked during the celebrations. It was head coach Mike Brown.
During his press conference, Anunoby highlighted Brown’s impact on the team.
He deserves all the praise…he’s always been a great coach. When you win, you get more recognition. Everything is coming together for him.

There was a lot of excitement after Brown was hired as the Knicks’ head coach last year. He joined the Knicks after spending 2.5 seasons with the Sacramento Kings. In Sacramento, he led them to the playoffs for the first time in 16 years and became the first coach in history to win the NBA Coach of the Year award by a unanimous vote in 2023.
The Knicks went through some ups and downs during the course of the season. But Brown and his men delivered when it mattered the most in the playoffs, and Anunoby made sure he got all the credit he deserves.
Mike Brown does not plan to give many minutes to his starters on Monday
It has been quite a summer for the Knicks. They have made the headlines wherever they have gone and the celebrations have gone on for months. However, it is time for them to lock in once again as they look to become the first team to defend the champiosnhip since the Golden State Warriors in 2018.
With their first preseason game just two days away, Brown was asked if his starters will feature against the Philadelphia 76ers.
Yeah. Probably. But not much.

The Knicks will take on the 76ers at the Xfinity Mobile Arena on Monday. The two sides are also set to kick off Opening Night at Madison Square Garden on October 20. It will also be a historic night as they will hang the championship banner and have the ring ceremony.
Mike Brown hints at OG Anunoby playing center in ‘small ball’ approach
After spending his first seven years with the Toronto Raptors, OG Anunoby was traded to the Knicks mid-way through the 2023-24 campaign. Since his arrival, Anunoby has been an important figure on both ends of the floor.

Primarily a small forward, Mike Brown teased that Anunoby could see some time at the five next season. SNY’s Ian Begley asked the head coach about the offense this upcoming season. Begley reported,
Asked about Knick offense & what may look different over course of season, Mike Brown cites more Karl-Anthony Towns at the elbow/as a facilitator; more pick & roll opportunities for OG Anunoby & Mikal Bridges and more Anunoby minutes at backup C as elements that may be different.

After losing their backup center Mitchell Robinson to the Boston Celtics in the summer, the Knicks are only carrying two centers on their roster: Karl-Anthony Towns and Andre Drummond. As a result, Knicks fans may see Anunoby play center quite a few times next season.
