Over this season Manchester United has had some great victories and some surprise defeats to boot. Ole Gunnar Solksjaer has finally hit a tone with the team and is starting to get results from them. Much of it is indebted to their Portuguese midfielder Bruno Fernandes who has a good supporting cast in Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Edinson Cavani.

Reminiscent of Sir Alex Ferguson’s time

Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United used to do everything from having late comebacks to last minute penalty decisions to last minute goals. Ole Gunnar Solksjaer’s Manchester United are doing the same with wins against Southampton, Brighton and Hove Albion and Wolves this season. It was a late comeback win against Southampton, a late penalty against Brighton and a late goal against Wolves.

Marcus Rashford scored the sole goal in the third minute of five added minutes after full time from a Bruno Fernandes pass. Sir Alex Ferguson was present in the stadium to watch the match and he will be mighty pleased to watch them win in ‘Fergie Time’. Fergie Time is the name given to the extra minutes that Manchester United were always given to win or draw the match in order to get a favourable result. While it could be debated whether it was really given in favour of Manchester United or simply given according to the rules, Manchester United always seemed to get a result in that time.

Manchester United are two points league leaders Liverpool and sit at second place in the Premier League table. Liverpool could go five points clear at the top if they win against Newcastle United away today, but Manchester United still have a game at hand. Whether there is a title race or not will be decided on 17th January as Liverpool hosts Manchester United at Anfield.
