Abhinav Bindra, the first individual gold medalist for Independent India does not need a big introduction. The 40-year-old won the first-ever individual gold medal for the country at the highest sporting event when Bindra secured the top medal in the 10M Air Rifle event at the Beijing Olympics in 2008. Although this historic feat is already talked about a lot, only a few fans know the little secret behind Bindra’s gold medal.

As India celebrates the fifteenth anniversary of this historic moment this year, an old video of Abhinav Bindra revealing an untold story about the night before he won the gold medal has gone viral. In the video, Bindra is talking about how Jack Daniels helped him secure the top position.

Bindra revealed that as he was really nervous about the challenge ahead, he turned to two miniature bottles of the premium whiskey to calm his nerves. Meanwhile, Neeraj Chopra, India’s second individual gold medallist, had a burst of laughter at this startling revelation from Bindra.

Abhinav Bindra heaps praise on Neeraj Chopra

While the two individuals were seen having fun in the old video above, Abhinav Bindra and Neeraj Chopra share great mutual respect. Bindra was the first person to congratulate Chopra after the latter won the gold medal in Javelin Throw at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics

The former India shooter also congratulated Chopra when he won the gold medal at the recently concluded Lausanne Diamond League. “A big shoutout to @Neeraj_chopra1 on his incredible victory at the Lausanne Diamond League! Your triumph is a testament to your unwavering resilience and determination, especially after coming back from injury,” tweeted Bindra. 

Notably, Neeraj Chopra secured the first position at the top-flight event with a throw of 87.66 meters. With this, Chopra won the Championship for the second consecutive year.
