Olympic gymnast Mary Lou Retton reportedly received $2 million from divorce before $500k fundraiser
As per reports, Mary Lou Retton received $2 million from her divorce yet she raised a $500k fundraiser for her health treatment leading to many questioning her actions.

In a shocking revelation, former Olympic gold medalist Mary Lou Retton is reported to have received a huge sum of money. The retired gymnast is said to have received $2 million from her divorce. This has led to many wondering why she had a $500k fundraiser then.
For the unversed, the 56-year-old almost passed away from last year after suffering from pneumonia. Her condition had worsen with time and she nearly found herself on death’s door. Her daughters would later start a fundraiser to get her treated.
In their statement on the Spotfund.com fundraiser, her daughter McKenna informed about the condition of the her and how she was fighting for her life.

The original goal for the fundraiser was aimed at $50,000. They would end up destroying this mark and raise almost near $500k for the treatment of the former gymnast. However, reports from Daily Mail on Monday unveiled a shocking discovery regarding her. According to court documents, Retton received around $2 million from her divorce in 2018.

Mary Lou Retton would tie the knot with former college quarterback Shannon Kelly in December 1990. The couple would later go on to have four daughters. After 28 years being together, the couple went through a messy divorce and parted ways in 2018.
Speaking on her split with Kelly, she claimed they still loved each other but were not great together. Following their separation, she would end up getting $2 million from their split. The Olympic gold medalist would also receive half of the proceeds from the sale of her two houses.
She also filed a lawsuit against Biomet Recovery over her two faulty hip replacements and ended up receiving a huge sum of money from the settlement. All this development has left one section of social media users wondering why she needed a fundraiser.
Retton and her family are yet to respond to this questions. Only time will now tell why they took this step and started a fundraiser for her despite receiving huge sum of money from her earlier settlements.
