On Sunday, the United States of America once again flexed its muscles proudly in athletics as they won gold medals. Sprinter Noah Lyles led from the front to complete the sweep of gold in 100m, 200m, and 4x100m replay races. While he was on cloud nine celebrating his victory at the World Athletics Championship, his comments regarding “world champion” comments on the NBA became the talk of the town. Renowned music personality and rapper Drake has now joined the others in slamming him.

The 26-year-old sprinter questioned the credibility of the NBA’s “world champions title” while talking to the media. The winners of the NBA Championships are referred to as world champions. “World champion of what? The United States?” he said while claiming that it “hurts” to watch the basketball finals and hear “world champions”.

Lyles would later add that he loves his country but that does not make up the world. He pointed at the Athletics tournament and said this is the world. He then made a bold comment saying that there are no flags in the NBA.

Drake is one of the most popular celebrities in the world. While he continues to enjoy success in the field of music, he is also a huge fan of sports. On several occasions, he can be seen attending sports games while donning the jerseys of the team. It is safe to say he was also one of those die-hard NBA fans who was not impressed by the comments of Noah Lyles.

The 36-year-old left a comment on a post roasting the sprinter. He would claim that the whole league does not rate him despite his historic achievements. “He thought his speech was gonna be so hard in the mirror the night before…now the whole league doesn’t rate you,” he said in his comment.

Drake though is not the only one to have hit out at Lyles for his words. NBA superstars Kevin Durant and Damian Lillard also had a swipe at him. Lyles would have hoped to have made headlines for his historic win and not his choice of words. Since that statement, Lyles has made no further comments. Some fans are demanding a public apology from him. It will be interesting to see how this development pans out further.
