In recent months, the name of Riley Gaines has been on the rise. She has become popular across the US for her fight for the safety of women athletes. Her involvement and fight against the inclusion of trans athletes in women’s sports has also made her an enemy in the eyes of some groups. One such group of angry protestors made a huge protest against her while chanting “F*** you Riley.”
The incident is reported to have taken place in Wisconsin, Milwaukee on Tuesday. The protestors held several placards including a huge banner that read “Stop Trans Genocide”. Several states across the country have adopted new measures and policies to put a ban on trans athletes competing against women in sports, to give them an equal and fair chance of winning.
The reason Gaines has started to take a stand is because of the experience she had while competing against Lia Thomas. The former NCAA swimmer has time to time attacked Thomas and trans athletes who took part in women’s sports. Gaines also is highly active on social media and appeared to make a statement that questioned several users.
“For this reason and this reason only, I’ll be quitting my activism,” Gaines said in one of her tweets on Twitter. After this tweet, some people were stunned but quickly realized it was just a sarcastic jab from her.
Riley Gaines laughs off insults from protestors
After her tweet which showed the protestors throwing harsh insults at her, Riley Gaines tweeted out that this was the reason she would be quitting from her role. A few moments later she came back with another tweet and laughed off the development. She dissed the group for taking charge against her and claimed that she could in fact swim, as a reply to one placard which said “Can’t swim“.
She would also claim that she is fighting just for the three basic things – safety, privacy, and fairness for women. “I’m advocating for the bare minimum: privacy, safety, and fairness for women. & I CAN Swim,” she said in her second tweet.
The second tweet from her basically confirms that she is not going anywhere. This is, however, not the first time she has seen a hostile reception towards her. Gaines was spit on by protestors recently in Texas when she was present with Governor Greg Abbott. The governor also highlighted the incident and claimed she should have not gone through this.
She was also involved in a huge protest at the San Francisco State University in California. Gaines was hit and stabbed multiple times by an angry mob while she delivered a speech. It is likely that she will not back down until she wins the fight against the issue of involvement of trans athletes.
