The thing that makes any athlete a superstar is their ability to bounce back from setbacks. They can come in any form, but the way an athlete handles them defines their career. Track runner Sha’Carri Richardson showed her character as she won the 100 m world title in Budapest, upsetting Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce‘ in the event.

Following a wrap-up of the event, a hilarious moment was recorded where Richardson accidentally called her opponent “old“. The 23-year-old American claimed that Fraser-Pryce is an “amazing athlete“. “She is an amazing athlete and I grew up watching her,” Richardson said. In the midst of the sentence, she realized her slip-up as everyone started laughing which Fraser-Pryce left amazed.

After a moment of laughter, Richardson would continue her praise on the 36-year-old Jamaican star. Richardson would also take a jibe at the media. She explained how blocking out media made her feel great.

Blocking out media like yourself and just continuing to going forward, I feel great,” the runner said in her response to the media critics. She had also taken a shot at the media before and asked them to show more respect to the athletes. This event turned out to be a glorious chapter in her redemption tale.

Fraser-Pryce is one of the most highly talented track runners of this generation. The Jamaican was hoping for a sixth women’s world title when she took part in the tournament. She was called the favorite to win here as well and continue her dominance on the track field. Richardson though, had other ideas and went on to destroy the dream of her rival in the process.

As the race kicked all eyes were on Fraser-Pryce and fellow Jamaican international Sherika Jackson. As the duo raced ahead, Richardson came out of nowhere from the last track and surprised everyone by winning the race in 10.65 seconds. For Fraser-Pryce, it was an unfortunate moment to miss out on the gold but she did manage to snatch the bronze medal.

This took her medal tally ahead of the great Usain Bolt. She is now the most successful athlete in Jamaican history at the World Athletics Championship. As for Richardson, it was a great bounce back as she was banned by the governing body for the usage of marijuana two years back. She was also disqualified from the Olympics for this.

This was the former NCAA athletes’ second-ever gold medal. It was also her first individual medal. This victory of hers is sure to pave the way for more future triumphs for her as she continues to climb the ladder of success in her young career.
