Swedish athlete Armand Duplantis has set another world record for pole vault, with his 6.22-meter vault at the World Athletics Indoor Tour Silver meeting in France. Although the Swede knocked the bar in his first two attempts, the 23-year-old broke his own record with his third attempt. This led to the crowd loudly cheering for him as he broke the world record for the sixth time.

Comparing Duplantis’ vault can be measured to be as high as a two-story building. When Duplantis completed his third attempt and broke the world record, the director of the meet and 2012 Olympic champion Renaud Lavillenie ran towards the Swede to embrace him for his achievement.

Describing the moment, Duplantis says it was an “out-of-body experience” for him to achieve this feat. Duplantis had already set the 6-meter mark back in February 2020, when he broke Lavillenie’s world record by a centimeter. Duplantis cleared 6.16m, breaking Lavillenie’s 6.16m record which stood since 2014.

Seems like Armand Duplantis has a knack for breaking world records and setting high benchmarks. This attempt at the indoor meet in France marks the 60th time Duplantis has crossed the 6-meter mark.

In his first try at the meet, Duplantis had cleared 6.01m which already placed him at the top place, with Australian Kurtis Marschall finishing second with 5.91m and Dutch Menno Vlonn taking the third place. Describing his experience, Duplantis says, “When you have moments like this, when the energy is so high, and you’re going down there for the record, it feels like levitating, it feels like my body never even touched the ground the whole jump.”

He looks very much confident about breaking this world record as he says, “The pressure doesn’t really feel the same anymore to me. I’ve proved a lot the past few years, the past two years especially, and I know what kind of jumper I am, what I am capable of. I know that I am deserving to be in the spot that I am.”

Armand Duplantis won the Gold medal in the Tokyo Olympics 2020 for both outdoor and indoor events in Pole Vault. While winning his gold medal, he also set the Olympic record for pole vault by clearing a height of 6.02m. Olympic silver medalist Chris Nilsen has described Duplantis’ performance by comparing him with football legends such as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. Furthermore, Nilsen also acknowledged the fact that Duplantis’ superiority over other pole vaulters was impressive and ridiculous.”
