Florida governor Ron DeSantis has recently sparked controversy with his comments, calling Lia Thomas and other transgender athletes as a ‘fraud‘. The Republican politician has been a vehement advocate of barring transgender women from female sports and has taken a stand with Riley Gaines against trans females from competing in women’s sports.
The ad displays Lia Thomas explicitly, with the voiceover saying claiming that you (transgender athletes) “couldn’t cut” with the boys and thus they “pushed women of the podium“.
Today, we recognize the men who hacked the system. Once mediocre in the men’s division, now cream of the crop in the women’s. You couldn’t cut it with the boys, so you pushed women off the podium Because without you, sports would be fair. Without you, women’s sports would be for well, women.

Lia Thomas speaks out on discrimination against transgender athletes in sports
Lia Thomas has been one of the most controversial characters in the American sporting arena, becoming the first transgender athlete to win the NCAA Swimming Championship. Several veterans in the field, including swimmer Riley Gaines, have pointed out the unfair advantage that Thomas has over other athletes competing in women’s swimming.
Lia Thomas, however, has been very much vocal about transgender rights and discrimination faced by trans athletes in sports. With the Biden administration’s newly proposed Title IX changes Thomas has come in support of the said legislation, saying, “Trans athletes belong in sports.”
According to the Biden administration’s new Title IX changes, the 20 U.S. states which have banned participation of transgender athletes in sports, may face a violation of the law. However, several critics and advocates of women’s sports have criticized Biden’s approach and stand against unfair competition within their category.
Even Piers Morgan, a popular British broadcaster and journalist, has voiced his support for Riley Gaines and lashed out at Lia Thomas and other transgender athletes on several occasions. He believes that allowing transgender athletes to participate in women’s sports would destroy the integrity of the competition and be unfair to biological women.
Nevertheless, the debate about allowing transgender athletes in sports is now stuck in a very tight dilemma. With World Athletics and other major organizations turning their backs on these athletes, many experts of sports are in a fix to find a viable solution, which does not deny opportunity to everyone involved.
