Former UFC contender, Sage Northcutt, who went to ONE Championship recently pulled out of a fight at the last minute.

Sage Northcutt is a former UFC contender who moved to ONE Championship back in 2018. He recently pulled out of a much-anticipated showdown and caught the scorn of social media. Here is what happened:

Sage Northcutt was supposed to face Shinya Aoki on the ONE 165 fight card. However, due to his coach’s visa issues, Northcutt pulled out of the fight. Taking to Instagram, Northcutt wrote: 

I’m sorry to all my fans and to my opponent Shinya Aoki for not fighting tonight. There were some last-minute visa issues with two of my coaches and they are on their way back to the US right now. One Championship offered to help by giving me a world champion Jiu Jitsu coach for a replacement, but not having my coaches that I trained my whole camp with out there with me to compete against arguably the worlds greatest MMA submission artist of all time wasn’t going to be best for me.

He thanked Chatri and One Championship for trying their best to make things work at the last minute. He also apologized to Shinya and everyone that was waiting to see him fight. Sage Northcutt is a mixed martial arts fighter with a professional record of 12 wins, 3 losses, and 0 draws. Northcutt began his amateur and professional careers with the Legacy Fighting Alliance (LFA).

He was scouted by Dana White at age 19 and signed to the UFC in 2015. He won his first two fights with the UFC. Northcutt is also a multiple-time Karate World Champion. He switched from karate to kickboxing, where he has a 15-0 record.

This is not the first time Northcutt pulled out of a fight against Aoki. He pulled out back in 2021 citing Covid-19 reasons. As such, it is unclear if ONE will put up with yet another matchup between the two.
