“Only Standup” that’s all it will take Khabib to defeat Michael Chandler in a potential fight
UFC 254 is just around the corner and the greatest Lightweight champ in the world Khabib Nurmagomedov is eagerly waiting for adding one more victory to his UFC record. Apart from Khabib and Justin Gaethje, the Bellator MMA sensation Michael Chandler was also in many talks as he is serving as a reserve fighter in this fight, i.e. in his very first fight at UFC.
Dana White surely seems to be impressed by Chandler from what he has achieved in Bellator and most of the people believe that Chandler will be getting a few big fights very soon. Talking about the potential matchup between Khabib and Chandler on Mike Swick podcast, Khabib says his coach Javier Mendez, has instructed him to fight using “only standup”.
The Eagle says, “If something happens and Michael Chandler jumps in, OK. Welcome. No problem. But Coach Javier says that if Michael Chandler’s gonna jump in, he wants that I fight the only standup. He says that I believe you can beat him only standup”. Khabib is criticized by many for his standing game is not so strong, but the champ’s confidence shows that he is improving his standup game also.
Khabib has a different game plan for Gaethje
The Russian champ Khabib has already emerged as a dominating opponent against the top tier striking specialists such as Dustin Poirier, Conor McGregor, and Edson Barboza with the use of his grappling, and he is leaned towards using the same against Justin Gaethje.
We have already seen how strong Justin Gaethje is when it comes to striking in his fight against Tony Ferguson. Now it will be interesting to see how Khabib will dodge those hard strikes and take Gaethje in deep water.
