Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney have always been at odds with each other, ever since their amateur boxing days. Furthermore, during the buildup of their April 20 fight and after it, they have not been able to see eye-to-eye about several things. However, both boxers have now come together and have been vocal about Golden Boy Promotions and DAZN not paying them for their lightweight fight. This led Oscar De La Hoya to respond to the young boxers.

On April 20, Garcia emerged victorious in a decisive win against ‘The Dream’ at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Furthermore, KingRy was able to knock down Haney several times throughout the fight. The fight was a massive success which was already predicted before the bout even happened. However, both took to social media to announce that they were not paid yet.

Perhaps Ryan and Devin should pay more attention to their contracts than their social media feeds.

De La Hoya responded to the athletes on Instagram, asserting that Golden Boy had fulfilled the financial obligations outlined in their contracts. In addition, he highlighted that the money not received by the fighters is their share of the PPVs. As such, Oscar De La Hoya stated that the money earned from pay-per-view events is distributed slowly and will be given to the fighters after it has been gathered.

Before the fight, Garcia announced that he would receive a $100 million fighter’s purse from this bout. Hence, since the boxer received a fraction of the sum, he stated that he wasn’t paid yet. However, De La Hoya highlighted that he hopes their managers are aware of the distribution of the pay-per-view money.

Ryan Garcia’s complicated relationship with Oscar De La Hoya

Garcia has been contractually bound to Golden Boy Promotions, which even led to his legal battle with them. Furthermore, amidst all of this, his complicated relationship with De La Hoya came to light. Signs of this began after his devastating loss against Gervonta Davis in April 2023.

Garcia claimed that his promoter let his side down when things got rough and blasted him for this. Furthermore, this only got worse when KingRy claimed that his promoter was rooting for his opponent. This was during the fight against Oscar Durate in December 2023.

While they appear to have had a reconciliation, their relationship still seems complicated. This is because De La Hoya doesn’t stand next to Garcia when things get rough. Furthermore, the boxing community witnessed this when KingRy tested positive for a drug test after the Haney fight.
