The recent press conference between Canelo Alvarez and Jaime Munguia was quite heated. However, the tensions were not between the fighters but between Alvarez and Oscar De la Hoya. They have had a long working relationship with each other, which ended in 2020. Ever since then, their hostility towards each other has only grown. Similarly, they both went into an explosive rant about each other at the press conference.
This started when De La Hoya claimed he made Alvarez a boxing star when they worked together. After they split ways, Alvarez only discredited De La Hoya, according to the promoter. Hence, he demanded that Saul give him and his promotion company the respect they deserved. This agitated Alvarez, and he even attempted to confront De La Hoya while being on stage with him. The Mexican boxer also spoke about his former promoter later at the podium.

Alvarez questioned if De La Hoya paid Gennady Golovkin the amount he wanted to steal from him. The promoter said yes, but Saul stated that he only did this because of Alvarez’s lawyers. He then urged boxers to lawyer up if they worked with Golden Boy Promotions and called De La Hoya a thief.
After the press conference, the promoter revealed that he takes accusations like stealing very seriously. Furthermore, De La Hoya stated that what Alvarez said was defamation of character, and he hinted at suing Alvarez for this. The beef between the Olympic Gold medal winner and Canelo has reached a boiling point. Whether De La Hoya will go the legal route remains to be seen.
Oscar De La Hoya and Canelo Alvarez spoke about the press conference
The press conference went viral after the verbal exchange between Alvarez and De La Hoya. They appeared to have gotten a lot out of their chests about each other. The promoter stated that he felt the need to defend himself because of the things Alvarez had said about him.
De La Hoya brought up how Saul has spoken about his drug use and time in rehab to discredit his promotion company. The Mexican boxer apparently did this when Golden Boy Promotions was struggling. Hence, this prompted De La Hoya to defend himself and get into Canelo Alvarez‘s head.
After the press conference, Canelo Alvarez also spoke about the verbal altercation and called Oscar De La Hoya an attention seeker. He again stated that De La Hoya only tries to steal attention and money from his fighters. Alvarez might get to mock De La Hoya further if he can defeat Munguia this weekend.
