Oscar Mingueza snubbed by Ronald Koeman in Barcelona’s 5-2 win over Getafe
Oscar Mingueza moves past Ronald Koeman after being subbed off in the match
Barcelona romped past Getafe in La Liga with a massive 5-2 victory. Courtesy of this victory Barcelona are now 5 points adrift of Atletico madrid but have a game in hand over their rivals.
Lionel Messi scored a brace, with others shining throughout the match. However, right-back Oscar Mingueza did not have a game to remember and was snubbed by Ronald Koeman following a rookie mistake.
Mingueza has been a revelation for FC Barcelona this season
With the scoreline at 3-2, the 21-year-old got a little too excited and joined the Barca attack. However, because he left his position in the back three, Koeman was not happy one bit.
“We’re playing with three!” the Dutchman shouted, clearly aiming his outburst at Mingueza.
Koeman reacted by sending Samuel Umtiti on in the 21-year-old’s place.
Mingueza was consoled by substitute Riqui Puig as he made his way towards the dugout. Mingueza has had an excellent season with Barcelona having made his way up from the La Masia academy. He scored in Barcelona’s defeat against Real Madrid and has played a key role in the Barcelona defence. He has filled in at the heart of defence when Pique and Umtiti were injured.
And the former Southampton and Everton boss admitted his angry reaction was “a bit exaggerated” after the match.
“Maybe I was a bit exaggerated, because he’s having a great season,” Koeman said of Mingueza, per Goal. “The youngsters have to learn that with Barcelona you have to always be 100 per cent focused in every game. His substitution had no relation with my anger.”
Mingueza will look to put this incident behind himself and focus on the important stretch of matches coming Barcelona’s way.
