Oscar Piastri clinches F2 championship in Abu Dhabi

Oscar Piastri
Australian driver, Oscar Piastri had clinched the F2 championship in Abu Dhabi on Saturday. The 20-year-old had to finish only fifth to secure the title, but the youngster finished third on the podium. Piastri finished ahead of his teammate and rival, Robert Shwartzman who came in fourth.
Jehan Daruvala won the race, as Felipe Drugovich brought his car home for a P2 finish. Oscar Piastri has clinched his third consecutive title in three years on the junior circuit, but is still without a seat in Formula One. He joins the likes of Lewis Hamilton, Charles Leclerc, George Russell who broke onto the F1 stage, after winning the rookie championship.
Oscar Piastri clinches F2 title in debut season

Oscar Piastri had a dominant year in 2021, where he claimed 10 podiums and had 5 race wins to his name. His teammate, Robert Shwartzman led the Australian for the majority of the race, however, he was unable to defend against newly-crowned champion.
It seemed that Oscar Piastri was content with a P4 finish, which would also guarantee him the title. However, he spotted an opportunity at Turn 9, where he lunged down the inside of Robert Shwartzman.
The young gun is managed by former Red Bull driver, Mark Webber, as he looks to strike a deal with a Formula One team in 2023. Oscar Piastri is a part of the F1 junior academy in Alpine, but will not be a part of the 20-driver grid for the 2022 season. He becomes only the fourth driver in the last 16 years to have not secured a F1 seat after winning the junior championship.
