Tennis great Martina Navratilova is quite vocal when it comes to issues related to women’s sports. She is against the participation of trans athletes in sports, as she argues that trans people have an unfair advantage over women.
On X, the 18-time Grand Slam singles champion doesn’t mince her words while calling out those who support the involvement of trans athletes in female sports. When a picture of a trans athlete winning a 200m and 400m race at Liberty League College’s track and field event went viral, Navratilova called the entire “awful“.
She then replied to a tweet in which the user called the trans athlete smug and claimed the athlete got away after doing something wrong.
The man looks smug, satisfied and yet also as if he just got away with something obviously wrong. I think the psychopathology of these abusers is similar to other forms of se**ual violence. BTW, two of the victims don't appear to me to be smiling. The user wrote on X

Was smug in the locker room as well, apparently. Parading around buck nak*d while later claiming how uncomfortable it was to be in that locker room.Martina Navratilova wrote on X
Because of her constant criticism, many accuse her of transphobia. However, in spite of the insults, she remains outspoken in her criticism of trans athletes’ inclusion in female sports.
Martina Navratilova won’t go to Saudi Arabia for the WTA Finals
Apart from her views on trans-inclusive sports, Martina Navratilova also gives some brutal remarks on discussions on women’s tennis in Saudi Arabia. The Middle East kingdom doesn’t have a good image when it comes to human rights.
Though the Saudi Arabian government claims things have started to change, a female activist, Manahel al-Otaibi, who was promoting women’s empowerment, has been secretly sentenced to 11 years in prison under anti-terror laws.
As the WTA Finals will be played in Riyadh later this year, the arrest prompted Navratilova to give just a one-word reaction to the entire thing. On X, she simply wrote, “Hmm,” implying that she has been right all the time.
Navratilova, along with Chris Evert protested over discussions of moving the WTA Finals to the kingdom. However, in April this year, WTA announced that the event will be held in Riyadh with a record $15.25 million prize money.
