Both ATP 500 events, the Swiss Indoors and the Vienna Open, were concluded on Sunday (October 26). Joao Fonseca clinched his second as well as his biggest title of his career in Basel, while in Vienna, Jannik Sinner clinched his second title of the tournament.
Now it’s time for the last Masters 1000 of the season- the Paris Masters. Alexander Zverev will walk onto the tournament as the defending champion.
Last year, Sascha defeated Ugo Humbert to clinch his first title in the event. He has been dealing with a lot of ups and downs this season, as although he is making deep runs and playing finals, he is also suffering early-round exits.
At the Vienna Open, it was Zverev who played Sinner in the championship clash and took the first set off him, but eventually lost. Zverev, who has now played four finals this year, will chase his second title of the season in Paris (the first title was the BMW Open). Zverev was the Paris Masters runner-up in 2020.
First seed Carlos Alcaraz and second seed Sinner have yet to taste success in Paris. While Alcaraz’s best performance at the event was a quarterfinal appearance in 2022, Sinner has not yet advanced beyond the third round.
Apart from Alcaraz, Sinner, and Zverev, the other top 10 seeds in the draw are: Taylor Fritz, Ben Shelton, Alex de Minaur, Lorenzo Musetti, Casper Ruud, Felix Auger-Aliassime, and Karen Khachanov. None of these players has won the Paris Masters.
The Paris Masters will determine who between Alcaraz and Sinner will end the season as the year-end No.1 player. Last year, Sinner ended the season as the No.1 player for the first time in his career. This year, because he failed to defend six titles, he was dethroned by Alcaraz after the latter beat him in the US Open final.
Sinner, following his Vienna Open win, narrowed the rankings gap as he is 840 points behind Alcaraz. The South Tyrol native will dethrone Alcaraz if he wins the title and the six-time Grand Slam champion fails to reach the semifinals.

Tournament’s most successful player, Novak Djokovic, will once again be skipping the Paris Masters. After winning his seventh title in the tournament in 2023 by defeating Grigor Dimitrov, the Serb chose not to defend it last year.
The 24-time Grand Slam champion is likely to end his season in the first edition of the Hellenic Championship, set to start on November 2 in Athens. Djokovic will be chasing his second title of the season after his ATP 250 Geneva Open win.
After the Paris Masters, the eight qualified players will be booking their ticket to Turin for the ATP Finals, where Jannik Sinner will be the defending champion. Last year, after defeating Taylor Fritz in the US Open final, Sinner beat the American to end the year-end championship for the first time in his favor after failing to do so in 2023 (lost to Djokovic in the final).
