Liverpool and Netherlands midfielder Gini Wijnaldum will be available to be signed on a free transfer this summer. His contract runs out with Liverpool at the end of this season and so far Liverpool hasn’t had any success in negotiating for a new contract with the player and his representatives. The Dutch midfielder has been one of the handful of players who has not missed any match for Liverpool through injury and has toiled hard throughout the season.
Playing him in his natural position could transform Wijnaldum’s output
Gini Wijnaldum’s creativity has been reduced at Liverpool as Jurgen Klopp plays a midfield 3 who cover for the full-backs. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson race forward to put in crosses into the box for Liverpool’s front 3 and because of the leave spaces at the back. Therefore Klopp opts for an industrious midfield rather than a creative midfield. However now rivals have found the weakness to Liverpool’s tactics and have countered that too.
Liverpool have been creatively bereft this season after they failed to adapt to opponents countering them and Liverpool’s midfield could contribute nothing. Thiago Alcantara and Naby Keita were signed for that but the two of them have been affected just like everyone else this season. Wijnaldum has been particularly liable as he keeps passing sideways instead of forwards to create chances.
The Dutch midfielder has 7 goals from 8 games for Netherlands in the Euro 2021 qualifiers and scored for fun in the Nations Cup too. Between Paris Saint-Germain and FC Barcelona, whoever signs the midfielder could get a devastating player if they play him in his natural position.
