Parthiv Patel was born on March 9, 1985 in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. He turns 36 today. Parthiv made headlines when he became the youngest wicketkeeper to play an International Test match. He made his international debut in August 2002 against England in the second Test at Nottingham.

He was only 17 years 152 days old then and became the youngest wicketkeeper in Test history . In the year 2004, when Parthiv was still quite new to the team, he tried to sledge Steve Waugh during the Border-Gavaskar series Down Under.

Ever since he took up wicketkeeping, his role model has been none other than former Australian wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist. In the 2015-16 edition of Vijay Hazare Trophy, Parthiv was the captain of Gujarat side. Under him, Gujarat reached the final to play against Delhi. He was instrumental in winning the final match as he scored a brilliant century.

Parthiv Patel’s comeback in international cricket

Parthiv was dropped after featuring in a few games early on in his career. He made a comeback in the Indian team in 2016 against England as a replacement for then injured Wriddhiman Saha. As a result, Parthiv played his first Test in eight years.

He led Gujarat in the 2016-17 Ranji Trophy. Under his leadership, Gujarat managed to win its first Ranji Trophy title after defeating Mumbai in the final.

Throughout his career, Parthiv has represented many IPL teams. Following is the list of teams he has played for Gujarat, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Kochi Tuskers Kerala (KTK), Deccan Chargers, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), RCB and MI.

Parthiv played 25 Tests, 2 T20Is, and 38 ODIs for India, managing to score 1,706 runs across all formats. He announced his retirement from International cricket in December, 2020.
