Jannik Sinner has not lost a match on hard court since a three-set loss to Carlos Alcaraz in the China Open final last year.

Jannik Sinner has amazed the tennis world with his progress over the past few years. The Italian became the first player from Italy to be ranked World No. 1 in 2024 and claimed his first two Grand Slam titles at the Australian Open and the US Open.

He shows no signs of slowing down in 2025, starting the season by successfully defending his Australian Open title. The records and consistency Sinner has achieved have impressed everyone, including former World No. 4 Pat Cash.

Jannik Sinner is almost unbeatable on hard. Didn’t he lose a single match last year on hard or something? His record is ridiculous. He’s so fast, he can move around the court with ease, he can hit big powerful shots. It wasn’t a great match for the spectators, but he did what he had to do. I think Sinner’s level was lowered by Zverev’s performance.

Pat Cash said on BBC Radio Five

Sinner displayed incredible shot-making and movement against Zverev in the final, not giving up a single break point to the World No. 2 and winning the match with ease. Throughout the tournament, the Italian dropped only two sets.

Alexander Zverev is a very good player, so it’s frustrating, but I think we have to think about how far he’s come since he tore his ankle ligaments. It’s a hell of an effort. He’s come back to where he started, after missing a lot of tennis, and has bounced back really well. He’s been to two Grand Slam finals, so what’s next? Maybe he needs to finish points, play better on the volley and work on his forehand. That forehand broke today (Sunday), as it has many times, so he has other areas to work on.

Sinner has remained unbeaten since losing the China Open final last year to his main rival, Carlos Alcaraz. Interestingly, the Spaniard is the only player Sinner has yet to defeat since the start of 2024.

Jannik Sinner won’t defend title at Rotterdam Open

World No. 1 Jannik Sinner has decided not to play in the ATP 500 tournament in Rotterdam. He withdrew on Monday, needing more rest after his Australian Open victory. Sinner won the Melbourne title for the second time on Sunday, defeating Alexander Zverev in the final.

Despite skipping Rotterdam, Sinner’s big lead in the ATP rankings ensures he will stay at No. 1. His next event will be the ATP 250 Qatar ExxonMobil Open, held from February 17 to 22.

With Sinner out, Carlos Alcaraz becomes the top seed in Rotterdam. The three-time Grand Slam winner leads a strong field that includes Daniil Medvedev, Andrey Rublev, and Alex de Minaur, who reached the Australian Open 2025 quarterfinals.

Grigor Dimitrov has also withdrawn due to a groin injury. Jakub Mensik and Roberto Bautista Agut will take the spots of Sinner and Dimitrov. Former Rotterdam champions like Gael Monfils and Roger Federer add prestige to the tournament’s history.
