Former Wimbledon champion Pat Cash has praised four-time Grand Slam winner Carlos Alcaraz. The Australian tennis legend considers the 21-year-old the best young player in the history of the sport since Boris Becker.
However, Cash pointed out one key concern regarding Alcaraz’s game and mentality. The 59-year-old shared his thoughts exclusively with Tennis365.
Alcaraz has got everything. I’ve never seen a young player who has developed all his game at such a young age. There are normally some areas that need improving at that age. Not since Boris Becker came through and won Wimbledon have I seen a player as complete as Alcaraz at such a young age.
Pat Cash said on Tennis365
Alcaraz has already made history, winning four Grand Slam titles by the age of 21. He has surpassed players like Stanislas Wawrinka and Andy Murray in terms of Grand Slam victories.
Carlos has the variety to play on any surface and he has proved that by winning Grand Slams on three. Jannik hasn’t quite cracked the grass yet, but they are both hitting the ball great. It’s about putting it all together, staying healthy and enjoying tennis to see how far he can go. It can be a grind doing it week after week, so we’ll see how he goes. Sinner has a calmer personality and that tends to help for longevity. We like to see the passion that Carlos has got, but I hope he continues to enjoy it.
Pat Cash added
In 2024, he joined the exclusive club of players, including the Big 3, to win Roland Garros and Wimbledon in the same season. With the addition of Samuel Lopez to his coaching team, his ambitions for 2025 are clear.
Carlos Alcaraz to be involved in charity events at the Australian Open 2025
Carlos Alcaraz is aiming to make history at the 2025 Australian Open. He hopes to become the youngest player ever to achieve a career Grand Slam. The current record belongs to Rafael Nadal, who completed this feat at the age of 24.

Before that potential achievement, fans will get to see the young Spaniard alongside other big names on the court before the main tournament begins. World No. 1 and defending champion Jannik Sinner and 10-time Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic will play in charity matches. These exhibition games are part of ‘Opening Week’ in January.
Australian stars Alex de Minaur and Alexei Popyrin will also feature in these matches. 2023 Australian Open runners-up Qinwen Zheng will join them. The games, held from 7-10 January at Rod Laver Arena, will raise money for children’s charities through the Australian Tennis Foundation.
The qualifying rounds for the tournament will run from 6 to 11 January. The main-draw action starts on Sunday, 12 January. Fans are eagerly waiting to see if Sinner can defend his title and if Alcaraz can make history.
