The Kansas City Chiefs were favorites to win Super Bowl LIX. But the game ended up being a disaster for them after the Philadelphia Eagles had Patrick Mahomes running for dear life. Now as they look into the offseason, the team was expected to bring in help that can help them win this time.

But as soon as the offseason started, they lost a few key players. Fans thought players were cashing in on their past success and leaving the team when they are the most vulnerable. However, there are still many fans and analysts who believe the Chiefs are a team capable of winning Super Bowls.

Patrick Mahomes definitely needs help. His offensive line struggled and, along with the unimpressive running game and inconsistency from his wide receivers, they needed to take some important decisions. They are yet to completely address those problems.

The team does not have much cap space to work with and will be on the lookout for bargain veterans. With limited resources, it made sense to let go of some of those players who were looking to sign major contracts. But then, that does not explain what they did next.

It is unknown what figure did Gardner Minshew and the Chiefs compromise on. But going by his most recent contract, it would be higher than the $2.3 million they paid Carson Wentz last season. Moreover, fans could not understand the logic of this signing.

Fans know Gardner Minshew is more than a backup

Gardner Minshew did not come into the league as a top QB prospect. But during his six seasons in the league, he has started in quite a few games. In many of those games, he has proved that he can be a decent starter.

That is what fans could not understand from this move. The 28-year-old can be a bridge starting QB on any needy team. Instead, he is coming to the Kansas City Chiefs where he will have no chance to start unless Patrick Mahomes gets injured.

Fans started throwing up wild theories on social media. They believe the Chiefs have brought in a QB who can challenge Mahomes for the starting job. In short, they believe the Chiefs are invariably pushing him to play better next season. Check out examples of those comments below.

Sometimes a little competition can bring the push needed for a player to perform. But the Chiefs are not a team that will demote Patrick Mahomes to a bench role. Therefore, fans feel this move is intentional, at the same time illogical, for Minshew’s career. Unless it is to win a Super Bowl ring.

Patrick Mahomes will have to start from scratch next season

Last season, their initial roster construct looked as if the Kansas City Chiefs had the best team on paper. They were loaded top to bottom on offense and were gearing up to hand it over to younger players as the season developed.

But then problems with the offensive line and coupled with injuries to the receivers stopped anything from developing. The team went on winning, but problems did show up from time to time. This offseason though, the situation is not that different.

They have lost a few key pieces and are yet to completely fix some of the glaring problems from last season. Their receiver room is still a question mark, and their offensive line needs reinforcement. It seems Patrick Mahomes will have to start from scratch from the OTAs.

The team might have the fire inside them to return as Super Bowl champions, but at the same time, a lot of other contending teams have added pieces to strengthen their bid. Next season, the race to the top will not be easy.
