Xavier Worthy has announced himself to the NFL world. His first career touchdown was a beauty, as he blitzed the Baltimore Ravens defense to waltz into the endzone. That career-launching moment had to be completed with the touchdown ball. But as he and the Kansas City Chiefs were busy celebrating, Patrick Mahomes had to take matters into his own hands.
As his teammates were surrounding Worthy to celebrate his first career touchdown, the three-time Super Bowl MVP ran towards the group. He dapped up his rookie and then ran to the sideline ball boy. His only interaction with that ball boy was to lay his hands on the touchdown ball. He knew the importance of it and did not waste time celebrating any further until he clutched the ball safely.
Then, as they jogged down towards their bench, Patrick Mahomes congratulated Xavier Worthy for his first taste of success. He handed the ball to their equipment manager so that it safely reached the rookie after the game was over. That shows the leadership the two-time league MVP-winning quarterback exudes.
The aforementioned instance will go a long way to build trust and chemistry, which will be crucial in their bid to become the first franchise in NFL history to win three straight Super Bowls. With Marquise Brown sidelined, that first and the subsequent touchdown was important as the Chiefs opened their 2024 season with an important victory.
Xavier Worthy’s two-touchdown game helps Chiefs defeat Ravens
The NFL Kickoff Game was supposed to be an enthralling show for football fans. With the fully healthy and upgraded Baltimore Ravens offense taking on the much-hyped Kansas City Chiefs offense, fans expected a shootout. The game was a nail-biter for fans of both teams right until the end, with only a toe on the line separating them.
The Ravens were expected to use offseason signing Derrick Henry to impose their will. Instead, he ended up with an abysmal outing, despite finishing with one touchdown. The only player to have more than one touchdown was Xavier Worthy. The first was his end-around run, which left the Ravens defenders stunned. The second was an easy-go route, which left him alone enough to stroll in.
That second touchdown, though, showed his shiftiness on full display. That shimmy off the line left Ravens star CB Marlon Humphrey stranded. If this is what he can do against elite defenders, the NFL better watch out. The Chiefs might as well ride him to a three-peat.
