Daniel Jones will make his comeback for the New York Giants in a few days. However, recent footage hints that general manager Joe Schoen remains skeptical about sticking with Jones for 2024.

The last episode of Hard Knocks captured two very distinct emotions. One was from Chicago Bears GM Ryan Poles’ emotional reaction to cutting Adrian Colbert, and the other was from Giants’ Joe Schoen. A clip from the episode ended up on social media in which Schoen can be seen talking to Poles.

While he didn’t exactly take Daniel Jones’ name directly, his words certainly hinted at what the Big Blue thinks about the sixth-year quarterback.

Gotta be nice not to be looking at the, uh…
Joe Schoen told Poles on the sidelines.
Quarterback? Yeah!!! Hopefully, it stays that way for a long time.
Without letting his counterpart’s words end, Poles replied.

The exchange was clearly about the Bears’ new rookie quarterback, Caleb Williams, whom they drafted #1 overall in March. As Poles mentioned, the Bears are set for a long time with Williams, unlike the Giants with Jones.

While Schoen chose to stick with the former 10th overall pick, he could have easily traded up to select one of the quarterbacks who went in the top 12 instead of investing it in receiver Malik Nabers.

Moreover, the setting of the clip is significant as well. Schoen and Poles were standing on the sidelines watching Georgia’s Carson Beck in college football. Beck has a very high draft potential in 2025.

Is Joe Schoen on the hot seat with Brian Daboll?

It’s difficult to predict certain things, such as the nature of football. The Giants can easily shock everyone and carve out a great season since Daboll will be calling the plays again and cementing his place as the long-term coach like Daniel Jones, who after one good season bagged a $160 million deal.

However, the opposite can also happen. Although owner John Mara has previously stated that he has faith in Daboll because he views the 49-year-old to repeat his 2022 heroics and reach the playoffs.

Everything depends on the game results. If Daniel Jones flunks once again, then he surely will be cut from the team in favor of either Drew Lock or Tommy DeVito. The best-case scenario would be to draft Carson Beck in 2025.

Unlike Daboll, most football brainiacs think Joe Schoen’s position isn’t in immediate danger. His first draft class was a hit-and-miss — Kayvon Thibodeaux is good, but tackle Evan Neal is a massive whiff. Schoen also selected Neal over Jets wideout Garrett Wilson, according to SNY’s John Darcy.

The NFL did favor the Giants, giving them the #14th easiest schedule for the 2024 season. Jones and Daboll will kick off their campaign at home against the Minnesota Vikings.
