Brysen Wright made Patrick Mahomes his fan with just one catch. The recent high school graduate entered a flag football tournament with the Jacksonville team.
On Saturday, Wright and the Jaguars faced off against a team from Long Island, New Jersey (a team that, curiously, chose the Baltimore Ravens insignia as its logo). Long Island took an early six-point lead, leaving the Jaguars to chase the game.
They answered swiftly. The Jags quarterback threw a Hail Mary at Wright, who rose the highest in double coverage to complete a one-handed catch.
Patrick Mahomes saw the video and immediately shared it on X with his thoughts.

What is the identity of Brysen Wright, who impressed Patrick Mahomes with his skills?
While the catch is amazing, Wright’s football career (whatever he has had so far) is commendable as well. Brysen Wright is a sophomore at Mandarin High School in Jacksonville, Florida. Despite his tender age, Wright is already 6-foot-2 ½, 200 pounds—bordering the sweet spot for NFL wide receivers.

According to the Florida Times-Union, Wright loves working on his skills as a receiver.
I work hard on (those catches), so when I get into a game, I come out, do what I do. I put in the work, and I go out and execute.
Wright said
Quarterbacks such as Mahomes love and admire a young receiver’s commitment to improve.
Wright is part of the 2028 class. 247Sports reported that several big college programs, including Wisconsin, Ohio State, Texas, South Carolina, Tennessee, Missouri, Colorado, Louisville, Georgia, Florida State, Florida, Miami, and Boston College, have offered scholarships to the four-star athlete.
As Chattanooga is closer to Jacksonville, Wright, and his family visited the Seminoles’ facility last year.
Mahomes and the Chiefs are always on the lookout for great receivers. Wright was already a local star, but the viral video gave him nationwide recognition in a couple of hours.
NFL analyst sends warning to the rest of the NFL about Patrick Mahomes
It has been nearly six months since the Chiefs lost Super Bowl 59 against the Philadelphia Eagles. Fingers were raised at Patrick Mahomes for failing to show up, not just in the final game but the entire season.
This led a section of analysts to believe that the two-time league MVP is losing his grip on the number one quarterback spot. Recently, FOX Sports Radio’s Rob Parker said,
Mahomes is [Michael] Jordan-esque. The only problem is he’s the Washington Wizards version of Michael Jordan… I’m almost ready to say that they’re not even going to make the playoffs this year.
"He is Jordan-esque . The only problem is he's the Washington Wizards version of Michael Jordan. He's that guy."

ESPN’s Peter Schrager presented a different view. During the latest segment of Get Up, Schrager argued that it is foolish to underestimate Mahomes. He has a chip on his shoulder due to the loss in New Orleans, and a wounded Mahomes can cause mayhem in the league.
This dude [Patrick Mahomes] is a stone-cold killer, and whether he admits it or not, he sees and hears everything. So, while the rest of the football world was crowning Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson a year ago, it was Mahomes who was watching, listening, and nodding along as he secured home-field advantage and launched his team right through the third straight Super Bowl.
Peter Schager said
Some thoughts on @PatrickMahomes , his glorious dad bod, and those bold enough to think he isn't going to come out this season more motivated than ever before.

The Chiefs begin training camp on Tuesday, which will run until August 13. A few days later, the Chief coaches will reveal the 53-man roster for the 2025-26 regular season, which they kick off in Brazil against the Los Angeles Chargers.
