As the NFL gears up for Super Bowl LIX, the spotlight shines brightly on the contending quarterbacks: Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts. Since their last meeting on the Super Bowl stage two seasons ago, the disparity in how these talents are perceived has raised quite a handful of questions.
While the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback has established himself as a league superstar with two consecutive Super Bowl titles to his name, the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback has emerged as a dynamic leader for his team, boasting impressive stats that mirror those of his counterpart. Yet, despite their comparable performances over the last three seasons, Hurts is often subjected to unwarranted criticism.
The reigning Super Bowl MVP boasts a record of 48 wins and 10 losses, with the Chiefs averaging 25.5 points per game. His completion percentage stands at 67.6%, with an impressive total yardage of 290.5 yards per game. Over this period of three seasons, Mahomes has thrown 117 touchdowns against 43 interceptions with a passer rating of 98.5.

Coming to Hurts, in contrast, he holds a record of 42 wins and 12 losses, leading the Eagles to an average of 27.5 points per game. His completion percentage is slightly lower than Mahomes at 66.9% and 260.4 total yards per game. However, he has thrown 121 touchdowns while only tossing 39 interceptions and a 97.6 passer rating.
Hurts often finds himself under scrutiny from fans and analysts alike, especially for his performances in high-pressure situations. Whereas, his counterpart, Mahomes is often celebrated more fervently for the evident success of the Chiefs that overshadows Hurts’ achievements.
Jalen Hurts’ legacy at stake more than Patrick Mahomes’ in Super Bowl LIX
Heading into the Super Bowl LIX, many believe the stakes are higher for the Chiefs as they are aiming to complete the historic three-peat and establish the team as one of the greatest dynasties in the league’s history. However, former NFL player Stevie Baggs argued that a victory in the upcoming Super Bowl would benefit Hurts’ legacy more than it would for Mahomes’ legacy.
Having said that, Baggs indirectly suggested that Kansas City will win over Philadelphia, highlighting how they have shown to have the “recipe to win” in games as important as the Super Bowl. That’s why, betting against them would certainly be foolish in his opinion.
Super Bowl LIX between the Chiefs and Eagles kicks off at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on Sunday, February 9, at 6:30 p.m. ET (5:30 p.m. CT).
