Novak Djokovic‘s 2024 season fell short of expectations despite capturing the long-awaited Olympic gold at the Paris Games. Following a dominant 2023 with three Grand Slam titles, Djokovic failed to claim any tour-level trophies beyond his Olympic victory.

Now, with the 2024 season over for Djokovic, as he has pulled out of the Paris Masters, the discussions about what lies ahead for him in the upcoming season have started. Many believe that Djokovic won’t be able to win another Grand Slam title, with Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner dominating the tour.

Additionally, the 37-year-old’s pick-and-choose policy about the tournaments means Djokovic will have limited opportunities. But despite all the apprehensions, Patrick Mouratoglou firmly believes Djokovic can win another major in the 2025 season. The renowned coach pointed out that the Serbian won what he wanted this year.

He won the Olympics which was his main focus this year, beating Carlos in the final, playing fantastic tennis, so he is not far away. I think he can beat them (Sinner and Alcaraz). It’s very hard, there was a lot of margin before, but now there is none. When he plays them, I think anyone can win, but I don’t think he’s far behind. I think he can still win Grand Slams, I’m sure about it.

The Frenchman also highlighted the fact that Djokovic won three major titles last year and he will not forget that. However, Mouratoglou admitted the 24-time Grand Slam champion’s struggle for motivation.

Patrick Mouratoglou feels Novak Djokovic needs to find new motivation

Patrick Mouratoglou admitted that Novak Djokovic needs to find a new motivation because whatever he fought for earlier is already achieved. He claimed that with Roger Federer retired and Rafael Nadal set to hang up his racket next month; the Serbian is unable to compete like before.

Mouratoglou also attributed Djokovic’s struggles in the 2024 season to Nadal struggling to elongate his stay on the tour. Serena Williams’ former coach believes that seeing Nadal struggling, Djokovic had this feeling that he won.

For Novak, it’s only about his motivation. I understand that he struggles with it at the moment because all his career was about beating the other two and up being better than them, that was the fight of his life in tennis and he won…I don’t know if I’m right, this year for Novak was tough. This is because from the start of the season you could see that Rafa was struggling so much and probably came to his mind, well I won.

Patrick Mouratoglou claimed

Djokovic did mention missing his arch-rival as the two played their last match against each other at the Six Kings Slam. The Serbian admitted that a part of him left with his two rivals retiring.
