Spanish tennis ace Carlos Alcaraz beat Jannik Sinner in the 2024 Roland Garros semifinal to enter his maiden French Open final. The 21-year-old is now one win away from winning a title and if he does it, Alcaraz will have a Grand Slam title on every surface. While that is yet to be decided, the Spaniard has surely impressed everyone with his performance in the semifinal.

After Alcaraz’s hard-fought win over Sinner, Holger Rune’s coach Patrick Mouratoglou heaped praise on the Spanish youngster. The French coach who has worked with big names in the sport, claimed that Alcaraz won the match despite playing the worst.

He talked about Alcaraz’s performance and claimed that the Spaniard was not in his best element. Mouratoglou also said that it was not the first time that Alcaraz won a match despite not playing to his best level and credited the 21-year-old’s strong mental state for this win.

What is very impressive is that he couldn't do worse, he couldn't feel worse on the court and yet, he still ended up beating the future world number 1. It's still phenomenal and it's not the first time. I have seen Alcaraz several times in matches where he was feeling bad, where he was not playing well, where he was tense and almost every time, it was he who came out on top. It shows the incredible mental resources he has.

The renowned tennis coach said that he was happy to see the Spaniard returning to form although it took him more time than expected. He finally managed to play his best tennis but it took a long time to find it. He has been through all states and not often good states. I would not have imagined that he would be in such an emotional state because he had already faced Sinner eight times, playing very good tennis.
Patrikc Mouratoglou said of Carlos Alcaraz.

Notably, Carlos Alcaraz was facing quite a few difficulties, especially with his body in the last few months. While he suffered injuries to his foot at the end of the 2023 season and at the start of the 2024 season, the Spaniard missed the Rome Masters with a forearm injury.

However, Alcaraz seems to have recovered well in time as he is playing exceptionally well in Paris. The 21-year-old is the only player to beat Sinner twice this season. He defeated the Italian in the Indian Wells semifinal a few months back and now he repeated the feat at the Roland Garros. The next challenge for him is Alexander Zverev.
