Jo-Wilfried Tsonga lauded Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz last year, but he also questioned their mental and physical abilities, comparing them to those of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic, saying the Big 3 faced tougher opponents en route to Grand Slam wins. But Patrick Mouratoglou did not agree with his views, saying Sinner and Alcaraz deserve full credit, backing the level of the current top 10 players.
Serena Williams‘ former coach also highlighted the fact that Alcaraz won two of his six Grand Slam titles by defeating Djokovic (in the finals of the 2023 and 2024 Wimbledon). In a comment section, when a user wrote that prime Tsonga would have defeated players like Jack Draper and Felix Auger-Aliassime, Mouratoglou wrote, “prime Jo was only one season,” and this comment greatly offended the 2008 Australian Open finalist.
Tsonga, in an Instagram story, asked Naomi Osaka‘s former coach to show some respect to the player he was. He also said Mouratoglou would never feel what it is like to be a tennis player, as the latter has never played professional tennis.
Mouratoglou has now hit back, though he did not mention Tsonga’s name at all. In an Instagram post, the 55-year-old said it’s not fair to compare players like Holger Rune, Lorenzo Musetti, Draper, and Ben Shelton, who are in their 20s, to those of Andy Murray, Juan Martin del Potro, and Stan Wawrinka, backing the current top 10 to develop further as their careers progress.
If, when Wawrinka, Del Potro, and Murray were 22 or 23 years old, you would have told them that they were not as good as the previous generation of [Marat] Safin, [Lleyton] Hewitt, [Yevgeny] Kafelnikov, [Juan Carlos] Ferrero, [Carlos] Moya, [Pat] Rafter, they would not have liked it at all. Maybe after 10 years, this statement would not be true anymore.
Mouratoglou then pointed out that never once have the members of the Big 3 defeated the other two and then went past the likes of Murray, Wawrinka, and del Potro to win a Grand Slam title.
The second element is some of you have also said that you would have loved to see Alcaraz or Sinner win a Grand Slam, having to beat Wawrinka, Del Potro, Murray, and two members of the Big 3. Just for your information, this has never happened. Not Djokovic, not Nadal, not Federer, and not any other player have won a Grand Slam, beating all those guys. Never happened.

John Isner’s bold prediction about the 2026 season, snubbing Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner
The 2026 tennis season started in the first week of January. The Brisbane International and the United Cup have concluded, and about a week is left for the first big event of the season to commence.

Jannik Sinner will be eyeing the three-peat at the Australian Open, while Carlos Alcaraz will be eyeing the Career Grand Slam. Since 2024, only these two players have secured Grand Slam titles, but during the Nothing Major podcast, John Isner made a bold prediction regarding the 2026 season.
I think we will have a Grand Slam winner on the men’s side who is not Sinner or Alcaraz.
John Isner said
Novak Djokovic, Daniil Medvedev, Alexander Zverev, Ben Shelton, and Taylor Fritz are the other contenders for the Majors this year. The 24-time Grand Slam champion was the last man other than Sinner and Alcaraz to win a title at this level (2023 US Open).
