Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have dominated the ATP Tour for the past year. Both players have proven they can play at the highest level and be consistent. However, three have been debates about who is better than the other on the court. Legendary coach Patrick Mouratoglou gave his own take on who is the best player.
Alcaraz and Sinner won 12 titles combined last year. The former won back-to-back Grand Slams at Roland Garros and Wimbledon while winning a Masters 1000 title in Indian Wells and an ATP 500 in China. On the other hand, Sinner claimed two Grand Slams, three ATP 1000 titles and two ATP 500 in Rotterdam and Halle.
Last year, they faced each other three times on the court and Alcaraz won all, including the five-set thriller in the semi-finals of the French Open. However, Alcaraz has always been hailed for his amusing style of play, while Sinner has always been a straight shooter.
Patrick Mouratoglou was asked about the difference between the two players in an interview. He compared Alcaraz to Roger Federer while claiming Sinner’s style of play was a bit stereotypical.
Alcaraz is a player who has the same tools as Federer. Yes, Sinner has a bit of a stereotypical game. But what he does, he does very well, and that’s why he is the best player in the world today. I think there is a lot of diversity here, and that’s very interesting. Players are playing better and better, hitting harder and harder, missing fewer and fewer shots, becoming more and more sharp… It’s normal, it’s the evolution of sports, of all sports, for that matter.

Nonetheless, let us recall that Sinner is currently under suspension due to twice testing positive for clostebol. He will return to the tour in May at the clay court Italian Open. Alcaraz is currently in the semi-finals of the Monte Carlo Masters.
Carlos Alcaraz says he missed playing on clay after reaching the semi-finals of Monte Carlo
Carlos Alcaraz booked his place in the semi-finals of the Monte Carlo Masters after coming from behind to clinch a 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 victory over Arthur Fils. The Spaniard saved three break points in the thrilling match against the 20-year-old Frenchman. After the match, he opened up about missing clay, where he feels comfortable playing his best tennis.

I think his level is high right now and he puts a lot of pressure on his opponents. Today, I could feel it, but in some moments, he just made a few mistakes, and I tried to make the most of those points. I have missed clay. It is good to play the drop shot and it is a shot I use a lot and feel comfortable using. In matches like this I won almost every drop shot I hit and it gives me more confidence.

Alcaraz’s win over Fils made sure he earned his place in the semi-final of the ATP 1000 tournament for the first time. Despite dropping his second set in the tournament, the 21-year-old produced a remarkable performance to earn the victory.
Carlos Alcaraz’s fightback spirit puts him as the favorite to win Monte Carlo
Carlos Alcaraz’s fightback spirit against Arthur Fils was the most thrilling in the tournament. The Spaniard was almost down and out when Fils led 5-4(40/0) in the second set, but he somehow found his game and claimed a 7-5 win. After that, he also found himself behind in the third 1-3 but won five consecutive points to take home the win.

The match was a good test of Alcaraz’s capabilities on the court, and he came out in flying colors. He might not have played at his prime consistently in the rollercoaster match, but a show of skills and talent helped him progress.
He then faced fellow Spaniard, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, who he beat in straight sets to enter the final. Davidovich Fokina had proven that he can play with the big players on the biggest stage after beating Jack Draper in the Round of 16.
