Patrick Mouratoglou opens up on the debate about Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz being better than the Big 3
The debate of Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz being better than the Big 3 was initially brought up by Mats Wilander.

Renowned tennis coach Patrick Mouratoglou has weighed in on the debate, comparing the Big 3 era with the current era of Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz. The Big 3—Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic—dominated men’s tennis, amassing a combined 66 Grand Slam titles.
In 2024, however, the narrative seems to have shifted, with Sinner and Alcaraz making headlines. The pair have claimed all four Grand Slam titles this season and are likely to finish the season in the top two spots.
This debate was initially sparked by tennis legend and Eurosport commentator Mats Wilander. After Sinner and Alcaraz’s thrilling match in the Beijing Open final, the Swedish legend suggested that their level of play may even surpass that of the Big 3.
US Open finalist Taylor Fritz also supported this view, noting that Sinner and Alcaraz hit with more power than the Big 3. Fritz is one of the few active players who has faced all members of the Big 3.
Jannik Sinner handed a tough draw at the Paris Masters
World No.1 Jannik Sinner faces a challenging draw at the Paris Masters as he aims for his fourth Masters 1000 title of the season, following earlier victories in Miami, Cincinnati, and Shanghai.
Sinner could start his campaign against Ben Shelton, whom he defeated in the fourth round of the Shanghai Masters recently. In the third round, he might face Holger Rune, the 2022 Paris Masters champion.
In the quarterfinals, Sinner could encounter either Alex de Minaur or Taylor Fritz. Both players will be seeking points to qualify for the Nitto ATP Finals, which would make it a tough match for the World No.1.
For the semifinals, Sinner may meet either Alexander Zverev or Stefanos Tsitsipas. Zverev will join Sinner at the Nitto ATP Finals in Italy next month, while Tsitsipas is unlikely to return to the event where he won his biggest title in 2019.
