Heading into the NFL Draft, it was unlikely for the New England Patriots to draft a quarterback, even though they had a No. 3 overall pick.

As NFL Network Tom Pelissero reported, Barmore has agreed to a lucrative four-year deal worth $92 million. ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Doug Kyed confirmed the news of the contract extension.

Shortly after the Patriots drafted Barmore using their No. 38 overall pick back in 2021, he became an integral part of the team’s defense.

However, the following year was plagued by injuries, compelling the DT to sit out most of the season. If it wasn’t for the 2023 season, Barmore might have been looking into free agency after his rookie contract.

The defensive player really came through for his team last year, despite their unprecedentedly poor season. He became a force on the defensive line by finishing the season with 49 pressures. He logged 64 tackles, including 39 solo and 13 tackles for a loss, while also leading the team in three categories.

Fan reaction to Christian Barmore’s huge contract extension

With the Patriots offering such a lucrative extension to their defensive tackle, fans appear to be shocked. Despite Barmore’s accomplishments last season, New England fans believe the franchise is overpaying him.

However, not all of them believe that. Many fans expressed their faith in the Patriots’ rebuilding era and that the team appears to be looking quite solid for next season.

With Maye leading the offensive and a force as big as Barmore in the defense, there might be hope for the six-time Super Bowl champion team to re-establish themselves as contenders.
