I will say this, I'll confirm it, but I am very happy for Peppers and for his family and also for our team and organization. He really embodies everything that we want on the field. You know, he's very selfless, he's out there flying around all the time, and it's good to get that deal done.

Mayo understands the positive impact as a result of having a player like Peppers on the team. Peppers played in 955 defensive snaps last season and started in 15 games. He missed two games in the season owing to a hamstring injury. The defensive back ended his season with 78 tackles, one forced fumble, one sack, and one fumble recovery.

Fans welcomed the team’s decision to sign him to a long-term deal. Peppers has found himself a home in New England after he spent his first few years playing for the Cleveland Browns and the New York Giants.

The contract pays him $24 million but he has incentives that can bump up the value of the contract all the way up to $30 million. It will be interesting to see how the Pats fare this season, with a new quarterback and head coach at the helm. The front office has done a good job in retaining key pieces and bringing aboard role players.
