With neither of the world titles up for grabs this Saturday, Seth Rollins and Cody Rhodes will meet for the fourth time in a singles capacity at Crown Jewel. The margins are fine, and there’s absolutely no room for error, so to speak. But given the track record between these wrestlers, it’s pivotal for Rollins to put Rhodes away by hook or by crook.

‘The Visionary’ knows it’s do or die for him, which is why he sought some counsel from his oracle on this week’s Raw. The Iowa native asked Paul Heyman what will be the repercussions of him losing to Rhodes yet again. At first, Heyman was dismissive of that sentiment, but Rollins wasn’t there for the appeasement.

Cutting straight to the chase, ‘The Wiseman’ told his client that if he doesn’t win, he’d lose the locker room. Even more importantly, he’d lose the trust of Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed. Heyman added that Rollins’ loss will throw away everything they’ve built as a unit since WrestleMania 41. Moreover, no one would remember him more than someone who was just a “de facto wannabe secondary champion”.

That being said, the WWE Hall of Famer urged Rollins to not lose. As Heyman was leaving, Rollins held him back vehemently and questioned why he left himself out of the equation. ‘The Wiseman’ informed the reigning World Heavyweight Champion that if he doesn’t get past Cody Rhodes at Crown Jewel, Heyman, at some point, would have to review his choice of picking Rollins over Roman Reigns.

What has happened between Seth Rollins and Cody Rhodes in the lead-up to Crown Jewel?

After their first in-ring promo from Raw a couple of weeks ago didn’t go in Seth Rollins‘ favor quite like he’d have imagined it against Cody Rhodes, he sent his so-called goons to SmackDown. Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed tried intimidating the ‘American Nightmare’, but the latter took the bulls by their horns.

Just when it seemed a bit too much for Rhodes to handle, Randy Orton backed him up just like a longtime friend would do. The former AEW EVP turned up on Raw last Monday to ask Rollins whether he sent the Brons to his show or someone else did it without his consent.

‘The Visionary’ shot down whatever Rhodes was alluding to and affirmed that every decision runs through him. Rollins had the same answer for The Prodigal Son’s inquiry of Paul Heyman formally introducing Brock Lesnar at Wrestlepalooza.

‘The Visionary’ later condemned his foe for reminding him about the camaraderie they shared from the time around last year’s WrestleMania, where Rollins ought to have been Rhodes’ shield against Roman Reigns. ‘The Architect’ asserted that he never considered the Undisputed WWE Champion as his friend and helped him beat Reigns just because he was the lesser of the two evils.

Then on SmackDown, Rollins, out of nowhere, showed up during the closing moments of a tag team match featuring his Vision recruits against Rhodes and Orton. The Chicago Bears’ superfan stomped The Viper’s head into the mat.

It resulted in Reed hitting a Tsunami and pinning ‘The Apex Predator’. Afterwards, Rollins was contemplating aiming a cheap shot at Rhodes as well. However, he got held back by Heyman for a while.

‘The Oracle’ was pleading with the 39-year-old to stop because Rhodes had gotten in his head, as one could hear Heyman saying. Rollins disavowed and ended up regretting his decision because ‘The QB1’ intercepted the former Shield member and turned it into a Cross Rhodes. Since then, Rollins has visibly been a bit ruffled mentally, which was evident by his cadence and body language on this week’s Raw.
