Cody Rhodes finally finished his story when he defeated Roman Reigns in a Bloodline Rules match at WrestleMania XL. Despite having the support of his family, he was unable to defeat The American Nightmare. On last night’s edition of SmackDown, Paul Heyman revealed the crucial reason behind his loss at the Show of Shows.
Paul Heyman shed light on the key instance that completely changed the complexion of the match. There was one moment in the match where Roman Reigns was standing alone in the ring, with Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins laid out. In a match-defining turn, he decided to hit The Visionary instead of his opponent. This slight moment of distraction was enough for Rhodes to capitalize, as he defeated The Tribal Chief to become the champion.
The Hall of Famer said this was the moment where Reigns lost his focus on Rhodes, which led to his downfall. Obviously, Rollins and Reigns were part of one of the most dominant factions in history. The Shield disbanded when The Architect betrayed him by aligning with The Authority in 2014. If there’s one chapter that Reigns wasn’t able to complete, it was with Rollins. In fact, The Tribal Chief got disqualified for attacking him in their title match at the Royal Rumble 2022.
After losing their championships to Rhodes and Drew McIntyre, both men have yet to make an appearance on television. The two are expected to take a break from wrestling, with no specified return date confirmed for either. Needless to say, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the former Shield members.
Ric Flair reacted on the historic match between Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes
Just like everyone else, Hall of Famer Ric Flair was bamboozled by the finish in the match between Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes. He expressed his honest opinion and congratulated both superstars for delivering such an amazing performance at WrestleMania.
The Nature Boy took to X and congratulated the top stars, saying it was one of the greatest main events he had ever seen. Although he expressed his dislike for the run-ins and interferences during the match, he admitted that it certainly made it more enjoyable. At last, Flair congratulated The American Nightmare for finally finishing his story.

The Tribal Chief recently sent a message after his loss and revealed that he started his journey from Day 1 again. Despite losing, The Bloodline leader is on track to once again regain his position at the top of the mountain.
