English midfield legend Paul Scholes ranted out at fans who wanted England manager Gareth Southgate to change Jude Bellingham’s role in the squad. The former Manchester United star shared several stories on Instagram, expressing his opinions.
The Three Lions have struggled their way through the group stages of the 2024 Euros, winning just one out of their three matches, while scoring one goal. Amid their struggles, fans and football pundits have suggested Southgate to move Real Madrid star Bellingham to a deeper role alongside Declan Rice. This would allow Phil Foden to play as a No.10, with Anthony Gordon or Cole Palmer adding pace and creativity on the flanks.

Ex-United star Paul Scholes however, disagreed with this approach, telling fans and pundits to ‘p*ss off’. Known for openly sharing his football opinions, Scholes took to social media to express his thoughts.

He suggested that Kobbie Mainoo would be entertaining to watch, but Foden and Bellingham would help them win matches. Scholes also commented that he keeps hearing suggestions to drop the Madrid midfielder back next to Rice, which he finds absolutely ridiculous.
Moreover, he also expressed frustration at suggestions for Bukayo Saka to play at left-back due to concerns about him being benched for Palmer, especially with Luke Shaw injured and Kieran Trippier‘s performances unconvincing.
Paul Scholes highlights one player who would make a difference in Gareth Southgate’s England side
Ahead of England’s upcoming matches at the 2024 Euros, former Man Utd legend Paul Scholes identified a single change he believes could significantly improve England’s performance at Euro 2024. He highlighted the importance of introducing 19-year old Kobbie Mainoo for the knockouts.

England’s midfield has come under heavy criticism, with Gareth Southgate acknowledging problems in the center of the pitch. Meanwhile, Scholes suggested that England’s attacking potential could be maximized if Southgate utilizes Mainoo’s talents in central midfield. He argued that better ball control from the midfielders would allow Phil Foden to move into dangerous positions inside the box.
I don't think Foden is playing out of position. It's about having control of the ball in the middle of the pitch. If Mainoo came in, all of a sudden you have control. You have a player who makes your team play football.Paul Scholes on Kobbie Mainoo’s impact (via Eurosport)
Moreover, Scholes compared the United youngster’s impact to that of Toni Kroos for Germany and Rodri for Spain. He believed this change would enhance the team’s performance.
