Pelé dies at 82: Cricket fraternity mourns the loss of “eternal great”
The cricketer fraternity, led by Jasprit Bumrah, VVS Laxman, and Virender Sehwag mourned the loss of the Brazilian great. They all posted pictures of the football legend and penned down emotional captions.

On Thursday (December 29), the world bid adieu to arguably one of the greatest-ever footballers, Pelé, who died at the age of 82. He died due to multiple organ failures that resulted from the progression of colon cancer. He was admitted to Albert Einstein hospital in São Paulo on November 29. As soon as the news broke of his demise, tributes and condolences poured in from all over the world.
The cricketer fraternity, led by Jasprit Bumrah, VVS Laxman, and Virender Sehwag mourned the loss of the Brazilian great. They all posted pictures of the football legend and penned down emotional captions.
“RIP Pele. Inspiration around the world, a global icon, a legend,” India spearhead Jasprit Bumrah wrote.
“End of an Era. Some sportspersons leave a mark that inspires generations. The great Pele’s legacy and achievements will be cherished by many generations to come. My deepest condolences to his family, friends and fans,” VVS Laxman wrote.
“You will be missed, king. You are an inspiration, an icon, a legend. Your legacy will live forever,” Suryakumar Yadav tweeted.
“A Magician on the field and one of the greatest sportspersons to have graced the planet. Heartfelt condolences to his family and well wishers all around the world,” Sehwag tweeted.
“A great loss to not just football but to the whole world of sports. There will never be another! Your legacy will live on forever. Rest in Peace Pele!” tweeted Sachin Tendulkar.

Pelé is the only footballer to have won the World Cup thrice
Pelé was born on October 23, 1940, in the Minas Gerais town of Três Corações. His father taught him to play football. He joined Santos at the age of 15 and made his international debut at the 1958 World Cup. He was just 17 years old at that time. Who would have known back then that the teenager would go on to become a legend.
He played a crucial role in helping Brazil lift the World Cup for the first time in 1958. After combating injuries for quite a while, he made a comeback to help Brazil win another World Cup in Mexico in 1970.
During a 21-year-old career (from 1957 to 1977), Pelé scored a total of 757 goals from 831 games (according to official records). He is the only player to have won the World Cup three times (1958, 1962, and 1970).
