Manchester City were dealt a significant blow to their season when midfielder Rodri picked up a serious knee injury against Arsenal. Subsequent tests revealed that the player suffered an ACL injury with Rodri undergoing surgery for the same. While fans wished the Ballon d’Or favorite a speedy recovery, the question still remains whether City have what it takes to win the Premier League without him.
City boss Pep Guardiola will be relieved that the club brought back Ilkay Gundogan from FC Barcelona ahead of the season. A reporter asked Guardiola whether his side is more equipped to defend their crown with the return of the German midfielder. Guardiola’s response was cheeky, to say the least. The Spaniard left no stone unturned as he gave both sides of the argument.
Talking about Rodri’s surgery, the manager explained that he underwent surgery for his ACL and meniscus. This means that Rodri‘s season is over and that he will be back in time for the next campaign.
It is no secret that City play better with the midfielder in the squad, having a 78% win rate compared to 57% without him.
Pep Guardiola confirms ‘war’ with rivals Arsenal
Following the nervy encounter with Arsenal at the Etihad, fans on social media noticed that the fixture between the two ‘best’ sides in the Premier League is shaping up to be one of the biggest rivalries. With fans from either side battling it out on social media, the next big step in the direction has come from Pep Guardiola. The manager recently declared ‘war’ against Mikel Arteta and co. at a press conference.
Responding to what Gabriel Magalhaes said about Erling Haaland and his actions during the game, Guardiola also made no effort to conceal his emotions.
Fans excitedly stated that the title race this season will be one of the most exciting ones in recent times.
Additionally, the manager also pointed out that City have become the team everyone wants to beat in the Premier League. It is no secret that there are a lot of ‘haters’ for the defending champions and many will show no restraint in making fun of the Cityzens at their first slip-up.
