Manchester City took on Newcastle United at St. James’ Park in a nervy encounter that saw either side share the points at full-time. Josko Gvardiol opened the scoring for the visitors before Anthony Gordon equalized from the penalty spot. Several fans on social media reacted harshly to the result as City dropped points in the Premier League for the second consecutive game.

City took the lead from a well-worked goal, although all credit goes to Gvardiol for weaving his way past a sea of defenders inside the penalty area.

City were then penalized when Ederson fouled Anthony Gordon inside the penalty area. The subsequent penalty kick was converted with ease as the Englishman emphatically celebrated the equalizer.

City were then on the back foot as Newcastle attempted several times to breach their backline. The score remained 1-1 and City dropped points for the second time this season.

Fans react as Manchester City play out 1-1 draw against Newcastle

A fan stated that Newcastle United deserved to take home all three points against City, to which many appeared to agree. Pep Guardiola’s side once again showed how crucial Rodri and Kevin De Bruyne are to their game plan.

A surprising statistic revealed that City haven’t won any of their last five games without the duo. Rodri will be missing the remainder of the season with an ACL injury, as confirmed by Pep Guardiola.

A supporter worried that City may end up conceding the Premier League title to Arsenal if they continue to drop points in similar fashion. Another argued that Guardiola will soon come up with a plan that eventually hands his side the title. Rival fans jumped on the bandwagon and immediately made fun of the Cityzens for defending with every single outfield player against Newcastle. Here are some of the reactions:

As things stand, City are now second in the Premier League. They play their next game against Slovan Bratislava in the Champions League before taking on Fulham and then Wolves in the Premier League. Guardiola recently stated that his side is ready to go to war and if this is war, Manchester City have a lot to do if they are to win the battle.
