Brandon Aiyuk finally got what he wanted all along in these past few months. The San Francisco 49ers paid him to secure his services for their still-open Super Bowl window. As the All-Pro is a crucial part of their potent offensive attack, it is naturally expected that quarterback Brock Purdy will throw him the ball. But one play linking both of them on Monday night had NFL legend Peyton Manning furious.

The Hall of Famer was speaking alongside his brother Eli Manning and former head coach Bill Belichick on Manningcast on ESPN. In the dying seconds of the 2nd quarter, Brock Purdy threw a perfect ball to Aiyuk, only for him to drop it. This led both Manning brothers to yell; “Oh what a throw!”

Get signed, get in training camp. There's a reason for training camp, you need it, we need the reps. Get those contracts done earlier, so we can get into training camp, and we don’t drop the ball.

Peyton Manning knows a thing or two about football and was adamant that drop by Aiyuk was because he missed training camp. Aiyuk might be in good physical shape, but not in football shape.

Catching such passes and using their physical attributes to move effectively comes on the back of repetitions in training camp. Brandon Aiyuk plays a position that needs a combination of skill as well as athletic abilities.

Peyton Manning knows that had that drop influenced the game ending score, it could have affected the team. But 49ers take their win onto the road games as two road games come up in their quest for a Super Bowl.

The blame would have pointed at Aiyuk and his contract extension had his drop would have proved costly for his team. It was just that the New York Jets weren’t firing on all cylinders to take advantage of that. But the 26-year-old should be working with his team this week in a bid to fix those mistakes. At the max, he can utilize next week’s game against the Minnesota Vikings to get up to speed.

The Vikings’ defense is good enough to test anyone, whereas their offense can be unpredictable. The week after that, he cannot show these mistakes anymore as he will head to the Los Angeles Rams. The Rams are contenders just like them and would want to win after a tough loss tonight.

The San Francisco 49ers do have the firepower to offset any mistakes. But considering the competitive nature of the sport, they need all their stars to be at their best. After all, they want to stop the Kansas City Chiefs from winning another Super Bowl.
