PGA Tour: Do golfers have to pay for their travel and hotels?

PGA Tour

Golf is one of the most expensive sports in the world, and it reflects in everything that the golfer goes through while playing on tour, especially in the prize money in the PGA Tour as well as sometimes the costs.

To play in the actual golf tournament, the fees to be paid by the golfers usually increase as we go down the golfer food chain- the highest ranking golfers do not usually pay for the tournaments since networks and sponsors take care of the expenses. But the lower we go down the chain, the fees increase since they contribute to the prize pool.

However, besides this, the real question is whether golfers have to pay for their accommodation and their travel expenses during the PGA Tour? The answer is yes. All golfers have to pay for all expenses incurred.

Paying for travel, room costs and meals can be quite an expensive affair for all golfers. It is estimated that a pro golfer pays around at upwards of $200,000 for all worldwide events per year. In addition to this, golfers also have to pay for their caddies. Not every caddie gets paid the same, but it is estimated that they make about $1200 per tournament and 10% of the weekly earnings of the golfer.

However, these expenses also have a flip side. The best of the best golfers often do not pay for these expenses, as they are usually covered by sponsors. Those who have sponsorships have it from companies like Titleist, Cleveland and Ping. They also have discount contracts with Hilton or Marriott or hotel chains which offset any travel expenses. However for those who are alone, playing on the PGA Tour can be an expensive endeavor.
