There was no doubt as to the fact that Manchester City deserved the PFA Player of the Season award after yet another dominant run to the title. Pep Guardiola‘s men narrowly beat Mikel Arteta‘s Arsenal to the League title after pulling away from the Gunners in the last few matchdays. As players cast their votes, England’s Phil Foden emerged as the best player in the League last season.
The 24-year-old was elemental to Guardiola’s squad as he teamed up with Erling Haaland, Kevin De Bruyne and the rest of his teammates. Foden was directly responsible for 19 goals in the Premier League, and was one of the highest contributors to his side. The youngster beat the likes of Rodri and Cole Palmer to the award, much to the delight of Manchester City fans.
Phil Foden also joined an elite list consisting of just him and Wayne Rooney as the only Englishmen to ever win the PFA POTY, Premier League POTY and the FWA Footballer of the Year in the same season.
Despite having rather underwhelming Euros campaign with The Three Lions, Foden’s brilliance in the League outshone over other player. Foden played his first game of the new season after coming on as a substitute for new signing Savinho in the second half.
Phil Foden credits Pep Guardiola after being named PFA POTY
Manchester City players claimed both the Men’s and Women’s PFA Player of the Year awards as fans expressed their excitement on social media. Following the win, Foden immediately credited manager Pep Guardiola for the same. The forward also thanked the rest of his teammates and staff at the club for helping him ‘get better everyday’.

Guardiola also saw one of his former players Cole Palmer claim the Young Player of the Year award after a brilliant season with Chelsea. The Englishman also ‘outperformed’ Foden at the Euros in Germany. Fans were also happy to see the Spanish tactician congratulate Foden with a tight embrace after he was named the POTY.
Besides Foden, Kyle Walker and Rodri also made it to the Team of the Year. Euro 2024 champion Rodri heaped praise on Foden as he credited the Englishman with the potential of becoming the best English player in history. After winning the PFA Young Player of the Year for two times, this is the first occasion where Foden was named the best player of the year.
