Carmelo Anthony has had one of the best comebacks to the NBA after sitting out. He is one of the best players of his generation. The way young Carmelo Anthony dominated in his prime years was worth a watch. He was one of the best prospects in the rookie year. Carmelo Anthony was the best rival LeBron James could have faced in his freshman year. However, his lack of consistency did not override him to become a NBA champion. His elite performance with the New York Knicks was exemplary. Despite that he fell short of a championship title. Phil Jackson reflected Carmelo Anthony’s career with New York.
That being the case, Melo is currently associated with the Portland Trail Blazers. After being a temporary based player, Melo has seeded himself with the team. He sufficed the role coming off the bench. The Trail Blazers hooked up against Orlando Magic today. After a 7-point victory, the team made a statement of getting back into league. Anthony ended his night with 8-points and 2 assists. This secondary role at Portland has got him some momentum. But Phil Jackson has a different statement for the veteran. He feels CA could have become a leader.
Phil Jackson digs into Carmelo Anthony’s past
In context to Melo, Phil Jackson felt that he lacked the leadership quality.
Phil Jackson said, “We had made a, you know, five-year contract with Carmelo, and Carmelo is a leader. I think he wants to be a leader, I don’t think he completely knew how to be a leader, as a player. And I think that the strength of his personality was intimidating to some of the coaches that were asked to coach the team. And so there wasn’t this compliance that has to go between players and coaches. As much as I tried to interject my own beliefs in that I don’t think you’re close enough to the ground in that situation to really be effective.”
The NBA veteran was once compared to LeBron’s greatness. As he lost his track in the NBA, he was forced to sit out. Despite harsh criticisms and rough remarks, Melo overcame all the odds and made a strong comeback in the NBA. The Portland Trail Blazers are 6th in the WC. Melo is a string that has levelled the secondary shooting for the team. Hopefully his tile quest s satisfied this season.
