Amid the chaos created by the return of Brooks Koepka, Phil Mickelson committed his future to LIV Golf. The 6-time major champion claimed he loves playing on the Saudi-backed tour and will not be going anywhere.
Koepka has been in the spotlight following his dramatic return to the PGA Tour. The American international was one of the big names alongside Mickelson, who left the tour and joined LIV Golf in 2022 on massive contracts.
After a 4-year spell with LIV Golf, Koepka left them in late December last month. The league expressed that he was leaving them due to some personal reasons.
The golfer would later reapply for the PGA Tour. On Monday, his return was confirmed following the establishment of the Returning Member Program.
A day later, LIV Golf captains took part in the media day. During this Mickelson, the HyFlyers GC, captain expressed that he is staying with them.
I’m having so much fun out here. I love playing out here on LIV. I love being with the guys… I could not be happier out here.

Apart from him, three other captains, Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm and Cameron Smith all committed their future to LIV Golf on Tuesday. DeChambeau, whose name has come up in several rumors linking him back to the PGA Tour, would snub the chance to return following Koepka’s departure.

It’s like that time I said I didn’t care that I wasn’t playing Augusta National this year when nobody invited me.
— Zaggy (@zagnut) January 13, 2026
I don’t think any PGA Tour fans want him back

I’d be happy out there as well if I knew I should actually be in prison

Nobody asked him to come back to the PGA Tour. Good riddance.

The only person Mickelson is fooling is himself.

It’s evident he’s struggling with no longer being the centre of attention.
Ironically if he played where he should be playing- on the Champions Tour he’d be exactly that.
Very sad for undoubtedly one of golf’s greats.
You got nowhere else to go.

The PGAT didn't even give him an offer. lol

The problem is, even if he wants to return to the PGA Tour, he cannot. As per the criteria of the Returning Member Program, only those can return who have been away for more than 2 years and have won The Players Championship or any one of the 4 majors from 2022 to 2025.
Mickelson did win the PGA Championship and is one of the recent major winners. However, his win came in 2021, almost 7 months before the timeline provided by the PGA Tour. So, he is not eligible for this program.
Phil Mickelson did make his feelings known regarding PGA Tour’s Returning Member Program cutoff
The PGA Tour established the Returning Member Program to help Brooks Koepka return to the tour. This program’s cutoff caught the eyes of several people as it required players to win The Players Championship or one of the 4 majors from 2022 to 2025. Phil Mickelson would make his feelings known regarding this.

Mickelson did win the PGA Championship in 2021. However the program’s cutoff start from the 2022 season.
Some users on social media were surprised by this and questioned the time period. Some suggested that it should have been a 5-year span instead of 4.
In a post on X, account ForePlayPod pointed this out and mentioned that Mickelson won the PGA Championship in 2021.
The PGA Tour’s cutoff for returning Major/PLAYERS winners is 2022.

Golf Digest would also make a post regarding this. The “Lefty” would react to this, too. Once again, he would drop some laughing emojis.

😂😂
In their defense, the PGA Tour can claim that this timeline provided by them starts from the time when LIV Golf kicked off. The Public Investment Fund (PIF) backed tour played its first event in June 2022 in London, with Mickelson being one of the 48 members taking part in the inaugural tournament.
The veteran golfer will now turn his attention to the 5th season of LIV Golf. Their new campaign gets underway on February 4 from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. It will also be the first time they will be playing 72 holes after adapting the traditional 4-round format in the offseason.
