In the first event of the new PGA Tour season, Hideki Matsuyama stunned the golfing fans with an incredible performance. The Japanese international finished 35-under for the tournament and claimed an emphatic win.

After his win, Matsuyama would once again give a interview in Japanese. This would lead to Phil Mickelson dropping a hilarious comment on his language skills.

Matsuyama has been on the tour for 11 years now. Despite that, the golfer has rarely been seen speaking in English.

In a social media post on X, a fan would point this out. The account named Jack Knapp’s Lifting Coach wrote, “Hideki Matsuyama being on tour for 11 years and not knowing a lick of English is truly impressive. Props to him“.

Mickelson would come across this post. “The Lefty” is highly active on social media and has often made comments regarding several topics. While reacting to this post, the LIV Golf star claimed that Matsuyama does know English but prefers not to speak it.

Hideki knows English but says “Hideki no English.”

This is though not the first time Mickelson has made a comment regarding Matsuyama. In June 2023, he openly sent an invitation to the 32-year-old to join his team HyFlyers GC on LIV Golf.

Despite the invitation from Phil Mickelson, Matsuyama would decline the chance to leave the PGA Tour. Since then he has achieved three victories on the tour, signaling that his decision to not join LIV Golf was probably a correct one.

Max Homa drops humorous take after falling way behind Hideki Matsuyama

At The Sentry tournament, Hideki Matsuyama created history. His score of 35-under was the lowest 72-round score in the history of the PGA Tour. After falling way behind him, 6-time PGA Tour winner Max Homa dropped a humorous take.

It was not like Homa had a bad tournament. The American finished with a score of 19-under while scoring 69-69-67-68 in his four rounds. Usually, this type of performances are good enough to win a PGA Tour event.

This was not the case in this one though. Despite shooting 19-under, Homa was 16 strokes behind Matsuyama. Homa finished tied for 26th along with Justin Thomas and Will Zalatoris. He would later take to his X account and dropped a hilarious claim.

Homa’s last victory came at the Farmers Insurance Open in January 2023. Despite falling short again, he would be hopeful for more such consistence performances this year as he looks to make the Ryder Cup squad again this year.
