On Wednesday, the world received a major shock following the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. The 31-year-old was shot at a University in Utah while he was speaking at an event. Golfer Phil Mickelson would condemn this and admitted to being “gutted” by this act of violence.

Kirk had never been shy of political debates. He was kicking off his “The American Comeback Tour” at Utah Valley University. In this, he would hold a “prove me wrong” open table discussion and urge the audience to engage with him.

Around 3,000 students were present at the campus for this. Several of them would throw some hard-hitting questions regarding his opinion.

A few students were seen recording videos and sharing clips of this event on social media. One of these videos would suddenly capture a bullet piercing Kirk’s neck, causing a massive ruckus across the University.

As blood gushed out of Kirk, students would take cover to protect themselves. The security would later take him to a hospital. A couple of hours later, he was pronounced dead. This incident led to a huge social media movement.

Many came forward and condemned the act while praying and paying their tributes to him. Phil Mickelson, who is highly active on social media, would take to his X account to make his feelings known. The 6-time major champion would call this act of violence “sick” and “deranged.”

I never met Charlie Kirk but I am gutted by this atrocity. Open debate is healthy and essential. Free speech is a constitutional right. Violence for disagreeing with someone is sick, deranged, and creates a greater division that becomes harder to overcome.

I don’t any words right now & I probably won’t for a long time. Lord be with his family, TPUSA staff, all who knew him, and all who admired him. No one loved this nation, God, or the truth more than Charlie.
