Phil Mickelson will not be teeing off next week at the Augusta National. On Thursday, the 3-time Masters Tournament winner revealed that he will not be playing in this year’s event and will be out for an extended period of time due to a family health matter.
The “Lefty” has been away from the golf course in 2026. Ahead of the season opener in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, he took to his X account and revealed that he will not be playing in the first two LIV Golf events of the year. Even then, he cited some family health matter.

Mickelson would end up missing the Hong Kong and Singapore events as well. He would then make his season debut at LIV Golf South Africa.
In his first start of the season, the veteran struggled in the opening round. He fired a 4-over par score in the first round with 1 bogey, 1 double bogey and 1 triple bogey.
He bounced back a little in Rounds 2 and 3 with scores of 4-under par and 7-under par, respectively. A final round even par score saw him finish T48.
Final round 71 for Phil. That’ll do it for LIV South Africa. Lots of good to take from the week, most importantly, he’s back!

The HyFlyers GC captain was one of the 11 LIV Golfers who were expected to take part in the Masters Tournament. However, the 6-time major champion will not be present at the Augusta National Golf Club next week due to some emotional reasons.
Unfortunately, I will not play in the Masters Tournament next week and will be out for an extended period of time as my family continues to navigate a personal health matter.

This would have been his 33rd start in the Masters Tournament. In 32 appearances, he has made the cut 28 times and come out as the winner in 2004, 2006 and 2010. He is one of the eight golfers to win this major championship at least 3 times.
Last season, he missed the cut with scores of 75 and 74 in his two rounds. He would then fail to make the cut at the PGA Championship and the U.S. Open before finishing T56 at the Open Championship.
Masters Tournament extends support to Phil Mickelson following his withdrawal
Phil Mickelson will not be at the Masters Tournament next week after following his withdrawal. The Masters Tournament would later release a statement and extend their support towards him.

In a post on X, the official Masters Tournament account shared a message from Chairman Fred Ridley. In this, they expressed that he will be missed by “everyone” at the event next week.
